Wat Khemara Phirataram The temple has relocated to 455 Porchester Road, Takanini, Papakura Khmer Centre is also located at 455 Porchester Road, Takanini, Papakura This temple is the fruit of dedication and love of Cambodians in Auckland and Hamilton. It is under the management of the Auckland Khmer Buddhist Association ( AKBA ). Reverence Sutep Soupong and a dozen of his followers generously donated their time, labour and money to kick start this temple project. They each donated $1,000.00 towards the project back in 1988. Rev. Sutep Soupong, Mr. Samoeun Em, Mr. Kay Chhun Seng, Mrs Koeng Tay, Mrs Preap Ly, Mrs. Kim Heang, Mrs Roth Muth and Mrs Chea Run led various fund raising activities.
The arrival of Rev. Ouch Oun strengthen the position of the temple, where he and his followers from as far as Australia hand built the vihara.
Thanks to the ASB Trust and the Community Funding of the Department of Social Welfare, we purchased a property at 7 Yates Road, Mangere, Auckland in 1989 for the residence of our Khmer Buddhist monks. The spport and hard work from the community A Khmer temple in Sydney donated two Buddha statues in 1990.
The Auckland Khmer Buddhist Association has recently purchased a property at 455 Porchester Road, Takanini, Auckland. This is a tremendous achievement by our Khmer community with approximately 3,000 people. Wat Khemara Phirataram moved to 455 Porchester Road on 1 May 2003.
